GES Hero

GES Program (Federal Initiative)

April 5, 2025 • Government Program

The Growth Enhancement Support (GES) Scheme was a bold, innovative initiative launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria to address long-standing inefficiencies in the agricultural input supply chain. By leveraging mobile technology and direct delivery systems, the program aimed to empower millions of smallholder farmers with timely access to fertilizers, seeds, and agrochemicals.

Before GES, the supply of farming inputs was riddled with issues—inefficiency, corruption, and lack of access in rural areas. Middlemen profited while farmers struggled. GES sought to change that through digitized registration, e-wallets, and decentralised logistics.

The GES Mechanism

Registered farmers were issued electronic vouchers (e-wallets) to redeem their inputs from approved agro-dealers. This bypassed intermediaries and ensured that subsidies reached the right hands. The e-wallet system also provided real-time data on input distribution and farmer demographics, laying the foundation for better planning and support.

Impact: Over 10 million farmers reached across 36 states. Fertilizer availability improved by 70%. Input fraud dropped by 85%.

Our Role in the Transformation

Little World Agro was proud to be among the verified aggregators selected to implement GES in several northern and southwestern states. Our role extended far beyond logistics — we were on the frontline of change, driving outreach, education, and technical support.

Lessons Learned

GES revealed the power of digital transformation in agricultural systems. It also highlighted the need for private sector collaboration, local trust, and sustained government support. One key takeaway was the importance of training—not just in usage of tech, but in building confidence among rural farmers to trust the process.
